Matrice Smith

Matrice has an apartment of her own now, after leaving homelessness and a difficult relationship behind. "I worked really hard to get here," she said.

Matrice manages lupus, a condition that brings fatigue, pain, and shaking, and getting to the grocery store regularly isn't easy. Eat Well's home-delivered produce boxes solve that problem — a dietitian calls ahead to talk through her needs before each order goes out, and the box arrives at her door, insulated to keep everything fresh, including the lactose-free options her diet requires.

Since starting the program, Matrice has noticed more energy and less shaking, and she's shifted toward healthier oils to help manage her blood pressure and cholesterol. Her grandchildren and a son currently serving in the Navy keep her motivated to stay well. Toward the end of the month, when things get tight, she knows she can count on Eat Well.

"I know I can count on them to send me something, and I can be able to eat for the rest of the month. I'm really grateful for that."
