Barbara Wallace
Barbara is a grandmother of five and a music director at her local church. A few years ago, she stepped away from work to raise her 8-year-old granddaughter, who has special needs. It isn't easy, she says, but it's also deeply rewarding.
Barbara's granddaughter loves fruits and vegetables — strawberries, grapes, okra, zucchini — and it's important to Barbara to make sure she has them. But affording a consistent supply of fresh produce, on top of everything else that comes with raising a child, was a real strain.
Eat Well's produce prescription program changed that. Barbara linked her card to the Walmart app and now shops without worrying about the price of produce. That frees up money for everything else her granddaughter needs.
"Every little bit does help — it goes a long way," Barbara said. "It's just a good feeling to be able to go get fruits that you normally would not be able to afford."
