Eat Well Plus offers UNC ALIGN study participants $100 per month for 16 weeks for healthy groceries.
After enrollment, participants will receive an Eat Well Plus card in the mail. The card takes about 10-20 days to arrive in the mail. The card comes with instructions to activate the card by phone or online.
Participants can use the card to buy healthy groceries, including fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, milk and dairy, soy/alternative milks, eggs, fresh chicken and beef, seafood, plant-based meats, spices, oil, bread, tortillas, cereal, pasta, rice, and whole grains.
Participating Eat Well Plus stores include Food Lion, Walmart, Harris Teeter, Publix, Instacart, CVS, Walgreens, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Family Dollar. Coming soon: Target and Amazon!
Participants can choose their own groceries and can spend their funds on multiple trips to the grocery store.

Where can I shop?
Eat Well Plus funds can be redeemed at any Food Lion, Walmart, Harris Teeter, Publix, CVS, Walgreens, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, or Family Dollar, as well as at some independent grocery stores. You can also shop online at Instacart and Walmart. Starting in 2026, your Eat Well Plus card can also be used at Target and Amazon. Note: The Eat Well Plus card cannot be used to pay for fees associated with online ordering or delivery. To redeem Eat Well Plus benefits through online retailers, you will need to enter both an Eat Well Plus card number and a personal credit or debit card as payment methods.
What can I buy?
Eligible items include fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, milk and dairy, soy/alternative milks, eggs, fresh chicken and beef, seafood, plant-based meats, spices, oil, bread, tortillas, cereal, pasta, rice, and whole grains.
To see if a specific item is eligible, download the OTC Network app, enter your card number, and scan bar codes at the store.
when will i get my funds?
Eat Well Plus cards will be loaded with $100 upon activation, and on the 1st of each following month that participants are enrolled.
Do the funds carry over from month to month?
Unused Eat Well Plus funds do not carry over from month to month.
How Long does the program last?
UNC ALIGN study participants will receive 16 weeks of Eat Well Plus benefits. Participants will be notified before benefits end.
